Innovations

Give a future to the future

Innovative, tailor-made products and services which focus on the customer are the strengths of the Follmann Group, and the key factors for ongoing growth and future success.

Environmental friendliness and the responsible handling of natural resources always play an important role – just as much as our staff, who work together with our customers to develop and advance the best possible solutions. For this purpose, we continuously invest both in the construction of new buildings and in the extension of existing ones.

Sustainability

Is an obligation towards the generations of today and tomorrow

We define sustainability as combining our commercial activities with our sense of economic, environmental and social responsibility. We adhere to the sustainability guidelines of the chemical industry in Germany (Chemie3) and follow the guidelines of the German Chemical Industry Association (Verband der Chemischen Industrie (VCI)) on responsible care (Responsible Care). For this reason, we have signed the Responsible Care Global Charter.

The following principles form the basis for our responsible and sustainable actions:

We are convinced that the successful running of a company is only possible through well-organised processes and thus through well-functioning management systems, and it is a matter of course to us to improve continuously. For this reason, our quality, environment and energy management systems are certified according to ISO 9001, 14001 and 50001.

In relation to climate protection, we contribute to the NRW Energy Efficiency Network for the Paint, Ink and Adhesive Industry (Energieeffizienz-Netzwerk der Lack-, Druckfarben- und Klebstoffindustrie) (VCI NRW Energieeffizienz-Netzwerk) in order to work together more intensively on the subject of energy efficiency. The Initiative for Energy Efficiency, Climate Protection and Energy Transition (Initiative für Energieeffizienz, Klimaschutz und Energiewende) was initiated by the Federal Government of Germany and the leading economics associations.

In 2020 the Chemical Industry Association (Verband der Chemischen Industrie (VCI)) and the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI)) founded the Chemistry4Climate Initiative to which we contribute. This committee of experts develops concepts as to how the chemicals industry and its supply chains can become carbon neutral by 2050.

In our Sustainability Report, we regularly provide customers, suppliers, authorities and the interested public with detailed information on the situation and our measures for environmental protection.

For many years now, we have been reporting on our sustainability activities in this manner, as this subject enjoys a high priority within our business group. We follow the guidelines of the Chemie3 initiative in which the Association of the Chemical Industry (Verband der Chemischen Industrie (VCI)), the Industrial Mining, Chemical and Energy Union (Industriegewerkschaft Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE)) and the Federal Chemical Workers' Association (Bundesarbeitgeberverband Chemie (BAVC)) have come together to form an alliance for sustainability.

We are aware that we can only achieve our goals by working closely with our customers, suppliers, employees and the authorities, and by always being willing to engage in dialogue, in particular with our neighbours. Therefore, we would like to give you an insight into our activities with this sustainability report.

Tradition

is preserved progress, progress is continued tradition

As far back as 1956, Heinrich Follmann, as an independent entrepreneur in Minden/Westfalen, was developing and selling speciality chemical products both nationally and internationally. Over time, the product range in the fields of special coatings, industrial and building coatings, coatings and paints for professional painters as well as printing inks for the paper and cardboard sector has been continuously expanded.

Follmann & Co. was founded in 1977. When Dr Rainer Follmann joined the newly founded business in the same year, the transition to the next generation was already arranged. A continuous further development of the production processes was undertaken in addition to the expansion of the product range. In 1986, for example, in-house polymerisation facilities were commissioned for the manufacture of special binders and raw materials for paint and ink production. Furthermore, raw materials for the manufacture of adhesives and sealants were polymerised.

An important milestone in the history of the family business was achieved with the foundation of Triflex KG in 1984. In the years to follow, the fast reactive PMMA resins were added to the product range and, at the same time, Follmann & Co. began with the transfer of its chemical operations for the construction industry to its new subsidiary. The company also specialised further in printing and coating products.

With Dr Henrik Follmann, the third generation joined the company in 2005. He served initially as the Managing Director of Triflex GmbH & Co. KG until he was granted overall responsibility for the family business in 2010.

Ongoing development is essential to the continuation of this success story and growth of the Follmann Group in the future, both nationally and internationally. In addition to staff numbers, the company is also increasing its production capacities further and will be investing over 42 million euros in the Minden location over the coming years.
